I truly believe that no one was created to remain this proximate to human pain and suffering. I get tired but not discouraged, I become sad yet never apathetic. I maintain hope however I always balance it against reality. I am committed to stepping aside from social work as I have known it and retiring before 2030.

I’m interested in becoming a social worker, how do I know this field is for me?
Fair warning, social work is not for everyone and that’s ok. However like most things you will not know until you try it. Yet if you are looking to help people but your version of help looks and sounds like saving people this field is not for you. Social work is not about saving people, families, or communities!
What do I have to do to become a social worker?
Social workers (state by state) have title protection so without at least a BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) degree you can not call yourself a social worker.
You can choose to stop with a BSW or work to acquire a MSW (Master of Social Work) degree as this degree is necessary to obtain either advanced generalist or clinical licensure. Be sure to do your own research!
Is social work hard?
There is no one answer to this question which means an answer likely does not exist. If you find yourself asking this question move away from doubt and lean into the discomfort of the unknown and give it a try.
